センター試験長文の第5問は楽しみながら読む
さて、センター試験第5問まで来ました。センター試験の第5問は小説やメールのやりとりだったり文の内容をしっかりと読むことと、例えば小説なら主人公はどんな人なのか（人でない時もありました（笑））、どのような状況、どのような設定なのかを考えながら楽しみながら解いていくといいと思います。
センター試験第5問長文の読み方はシンプル
このセンター試験の第5問の解き方はとてもシンプルです。
英検の長文問題を解く時も同じなのですが、まずは問題を読みます。
そしてその答えを探しながら本文を読んでいくのです。
こうすると何度も何度も本文を読む必要がなくなるのです。ただそれだけです。Simple is best！
では2019年の問題で第5問の問１を解いてみましょう。
問１：Christine originally said she would do the gardening because she[................]
この段階で選択肢は読まなくて大丈夫ですよ。

「クリスティーンは最初は庭仕事をすると言った。何故なら[...................]だからです。
ということだからクリスティーンが庭仕事をすると言った時の理由を探しながら読めばいいのですね。

"Christine, come and help me in the garden. I want to plant all of the seeds today." My father was calling to me."I'm busy." I said. My father loves his garden, but at that time I didn't understand why working in the dirt excited him so much.

I said（私は忙しいのよと私は言った）. My father loves his garden（私の父は庭を愛していたのだけど）, but at that time（その頃） I didn't understand（私には理解できなかったの） why working in the dirt excited him so much（なぜ土まみれて働くことが父にとってそんなに楽しいことなのか）.
ということですね。ここではクリスティーンは庭仕事に興味がなかったことがわかりますね。もう少し読んで見ますね。
By the end of April, his plants had come up in neat rows, and he put wooden stakes marked with the name of the vegetable on each row. Unfortunately, in early May, my father was seriously injured in an accident. He was in the hospital for about two months and during that time he often asked me about his garden. Even after he came home, he had to stay in bed for a while. My mother had several business trips so she couldn't take care of the garden. I assumed that the little plants would continue to grow as long as they had water, and luckily it rained fairly often so I didn't think much about the garden.

My mother had several business trips （母は出張が続いていて）so she couldn't take care of the garden（だから庭の面倒を見ることはできなかった）. I didn't want my father to worry（私は父に心配をかけたくなかったので）, so without being asked（頼まれたわけでもなかったけど）, I said （言ったの）that I would take care of his garden until he recovered（お父さんが良くなるまで庭の世話をするわと） . I assumed （私は思っていた）that the little plants would continue to grow (小さな植物は成長するだろうと）as long as they had water（水がありさえすれば）, and luckily （そしてラッキーなことには）it rained fairly often（かなり頻繁に雨が降っていたので） so I didn't think much about the garden（そんなに庭について深刻に考えなくてもいいと思ってたの）.
先生わかりました！そんなに庭仕事に興味を持ってたわけじゃないけど、お父さんが怪我でお庭の世話ができなくなったからお父さんのためにこちらから申し出たということですね。

簡単です。①の「お父さんにとって庭仕事が大事だとわかっていたから」しかないですね。
②は「彼女のガーデニングスキルを伸ばしたかったから」だけど、もともとガーデニングには興味がないから違う。
③は「お父さんにしてくれと頼まれた」とあるけど、本文に「父に頼まれてなかったけど」とあるのでおかしい。
④は「野菜を育てることに興味があった」とあるけど、②と同じでガーデニングには興味なかったですものね。
素晴らしいですね。よくできました。
このように解いていくと確実に答えはわかりますね。
まとめ
残りの問題も同じように読んでいくと楽に答えを見つけることができますね。
- 問１を読んで、どのような答えを求めればいいのかをしっかりと理解する。
- 求める答えが見つかるまで本文を読み進める。きちんと読めれば答えは！！！とわかるはず。
- 選択肢がなくてもその問題の答えはわかるはずですね。ただ、本文に書いてあるそのものの文が書かれてあることはほとんどありません。言い換えてあることがほとんどですから、やはり本質的に内容をとらえて置くことが必要です。
